I had to laugh when I read your post! I have been forced to text so I can communicate with my teenager. That's what they do, and that's how they communicate now.

He text's from his afterschool play when he's ready for his dinner, and sends a text when he's ready to get picked up. In some ways it is more convenient than phone calls - it gets right to the point!

Great post Rick! I hope we all can keep up to date with communication styles that are in vogue. I had to get mentored on Twitter, but the results were so worth it. By the way, I was mentored by someone younger and "less experienced" in ministry than myself. Imagine if my pride had gotten in my way...

Not gonna worry about "the hip young guy with tattoos to show he has a past". Lighting, stage effects, etc is what changes it to performance instead of worship.

There are so many Christian books in different bookstores - why does a church need one in today's world? Just wondering....

To me, fulfilling God's purposes can be summed up in living a life of obedience. The fulfillment of purposes will look different for every individual for God has different purposes for each of us but the main purpose is to be obedient to Him regardless of what we are doing/being. Because if we are really obeying Him and hearing from Him individually then we will be fulfilling what He has called each of us to do!

It is so easy to get completely overcome by life. There are so many things going on in our lives that shout at us for our attention. Several times lately, as I've been driving down the road, I've been mindful that one day SOON I may be driving along and my spirit will just begin to rise from this world. WHAT A DELIGHTFUL THOUGHT! I'm so excited for the day. No more places to be, no more meetings to attend, no more errands to run, no more events to plan, no more car/house/family problems, no more conflicts. It's hard to imagine...UNTIL you focus your attention on eternity. Loved your piece, Rick. Maybe God is preparing our hearts for that day!!
