quick hits

been a few days since i've posted...apologies!

been traveling quite a bit lately to various churches and really loving it - so that's taken a good bit of my time...anyway, here are some quick hits...
  • i love my wife!
  • more than ever!
  • i love my kids!
  • more than ever!
  • i like being with them...
  • perfect season going thus far - unfortunately, numbers are in the right column instead of the left one (they're 0-3) - hopefully they'll turn it around and start scoring some goals - one thing i'll say, the pace of the game and the skills are simply amazing
  • i activated sirius radio - not too crazy about it - i really like xm radio much better - 2 reasons: mlb and uga - both on xm
  • God is really giving me a burden for small churches - that they will grow - again!
  • He's also giving me a heart and a better understanding of the pain that pastors go through - let me say this...pastoring and ministry is hard work! i've seen so much pain and heard so many stories of pastors that hurt - no what hurts worse? the pastor's wife! been doing a lot of praying for both lately
  • reading several books lately - of course they all deal with church planting...if i have time, i'll post some thoughts/reviews
  • atlanta braves baseball is just around the corner
  • i'll be visiting this church soon and am really excited about it - it's been on my radar for a couple of years now and i love what they're doing...Spirit-filled, church planting, multi-site, growth like crazy

A weekend away...

Nothing like a romantic weekend away till you check into your room and see this!

because ministry is tough...take six

if you're involved in any capacity in ministry, you should take about 6 minutes and watch this...

they said it...

your old strategies don't work anymore!

i was driving up the interstate today on my way to the office...listening to the radio...on came a contest that offered "caller #7" an opportunity to win a chance at going to a racing school - you've got to understand, this is one of my dreams...i want to race a car...go really fast and not get pulled over by the police...i want to feel the adrenaline of hitting a turn and the g's pressing against me...i want to have the ability to throttle down and have 750 horserpower move me really quickly down a stretch...i've even looked into the costs here - so...i was ready to dial in, ready to take my chances and give it a shot - i was going to be "caller #7"

only one problem...

the phone number wasn't a number...

it was a name...something like, "call 800-got-notn"

here's the problem...

i own this phone

and on this phone...the letters do not match up like they on the 20th century phones...in other words...the "#1" does not have 'a, b, c' on it - my "#1" has the letter 'w' on it....

so...

your cute little name/number strategy doesn't work for me...

it's old and it doesn't translate to the vast number of blackberry, treo, blackjack, Q, and other pda/cell combos - your old strategy is no longer effective...gee...

i wonder if we do that in church - do we ever strop to consider that what worked in late 20th century may not work in the 21st? do we ever slow down long enough and look at something so simple as a phone (or a bulletin, overhead, flannel graph) perhaps doesn't work as an effective strategy?

here's the deal...i wanted to win that contest...i was ready...but i couldn't connect...

same with your church...they want to come...they are ready...can they connect?
